Benefit Concert Showcases Young Talent

March 9, 2014

A benefit concert drew dozens of people to Albemarle High School on Sunday night.

The audience heard from eight performers, including the school's own acapella group MinuteMen.

The event is called the Life and Love Benefit Concert, and organizer Lily Garay says it has two simple missions.

"One is to gather talent from the community and showcase their abilities and the second mission is to benefit a charity," said Garay.

This year, all ticket proceeds will go to the Bolivia Life Center, which is an orphanage in Bolivia.

"It houses about 60 children right now, and they have a home for after the kids turn 18 so they can be educated, work towards that goal of possibly moving out or moving to the next step in their life," said Garay.

This was the third year for the event, which was formerly known as the Back to School Bash. It was also the first time the showcase was held in March.
