The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors voted to support the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013.
Four members were for the act that will allow Congress to remove hemp from the Controlled Substance Act.
The act would also license and regulate the commercial production of hemp as an industrial and agricultural commodity.
The plant's seeds and fibers can be used to make more than 25,000 products like textiles, rope, plastic, shampoos and vitamins.
