CBS Journalist Bob Schieffer Visits UVa Class

March 4, 2013

Veteran CBS News journalist Bob Schieffer spoke to a political science class at the University of Virginia Monday afternoon with a message of compromise.

The longtime host of Face the Nation spoke to professor Larry Sabato's class about the political divide in Washington. Schieffer said in his five decades in news, he's never seen such a partisan split in Congress.

The message he said he hoped to convey to students was that compromise, from grounds to the Capitol, is the best way to get things done.

"We need to find a way to somehow erase this notion that 'compromise' is a dirty word," Schieffer said. "The way that legislatures get things done is by compromising, by people getting together."

When asked what the crowning achievement of his decades-long career is, Schieffer responded that he's still here and doing what he loves.
