A handful of students at Charlottesville High School will soon be contributing to the International Space Station.
The BACON club, which stands for Best All-around Club of Nerds, recently took second place out of 96 teams in a robotics competition.
They get lots of prizes, including a trip to MIT next month, a chance to run their robotics code on the International Space Station, and a Skype conversation with astronauts.
The team leader, CHS senior Caroline Hylton, says they all learned a lot in the process.
"It's so great to see the epiphany moment," said Hylton. "To see everyone's faces when they're like, 'That's what coding is!'"
Awards aren't a new thing for BACON. Last year they got Team of the Year at Science Olympiad.
