Charlottesville City Council candidates Bob Fenwick and Kristen Szakos kicked off their campaigns on Tuesday.
Dozens of people were at City Hall to show their support for the two Democratic candidates.
Both Fenwick and Szakos want to make the relationship between council and the public smoother, adding they want to continue the tradition of accessibility in the council.
"A lot of people know about me and about my small business background," says Fenwick. "They're really anxious to have that kind of a voice on City Council. I don't know if there's been one for a long time."
"One idea that I've been kicking around with staff is having town hall meeting with different constituencies," says Szakos. "So a town hall meeting for youth, one for seniors, maybe one for small business, so that we can look at how people view their piece of the city and how that's working, and give us ideas about things that either need to change or be strengthened."
Both candidates will appear on the November ballot.
