A car accident near the Barracks Road Shopping Center was causing traffic delays on Tuesday evening.
Police say a woman was turning onto Barracks Road from Surry Drive when she hit a sign and lost control of her vehicle.
Her car then crossed over the median into westbound traffic, although it did not hit any other cars. The driver eventually hit a tree and her vehicle overturned.
She has been taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Her identity and her condition have not yet been released.
