Rain pouring from the sky Wednesday night caused a tricky drive home for some people. Two women found themselves stuck under a bridge off of Ivy Road as they tried to drive through the water.
"The driver did what they shouldn't try to do. Cross water. They thought they could go through it. You should never try to cross water especially in a smaller vehicle. And they learned their lesson," said Cpl. Greg Davis of the Albemarle County Police.
Fire crews and police responded to the scene around 7 p.m. Wednesday night and were able to get the passengers out of the car safely and into a police car to warm up.
"It's not a swift It was a water rescue. The water is not moving it's kinda staying in place so theres no fear of going anywhere else. They were staying put in the car," Davis said.
The driver of the tow truck that pulled the car out of the water said he's seen this before on days with very heavy amounts of rain.
Police say whether you think it doesn't look like a lot of rain or you're questioning to continue driving, don't do it.
"As I was sitting here another vehicle tried to go around my police car and through the water as well. So you just want to pay attention to your surroundings and never cross through water."
