Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad Continues Fund Drive

December 21, 2012

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad is about halfway through its annual fundraising period, but still has a long way to go to reach its goal. The squad is hoping to raise $400,000 by the end of February.

CARS is made up of volunteers who donate their own time to provide emergency medical services to Charlottesville, the University of Virginia and Albemarle County. The money donated to the fund drive covers needs like equipment, fuel, maintenance and training for the crew.

"It goes to a cause that provides a service for the citizens and visitors of the community in case they become suddenly ill or injured," said CARS president Michael Berg. "We're there to take care of them."

CARS has been around for more than 50 years. Berg said volunteer rescue squads are becoming a rarity in the Commonwealth. He said it’s the strong community support and dedicated volunteers who have kept it going for the area.

To make a tax-deductible contribution to CARS, you can drop off a donation in person or send a check to the station at:

828 McIntire Road
Charlottesville, VA 22902

Or you can donate online by going to the CARS website.

Although the volunteer rescue squad accepts donations throughout the year, CARS is hoping to meet its goal of $400,000 by the end of February.
