UPDATED: Charlottesville Police Investigating Meth Lab

Oct. 9, 2013

Officers searched a suspected meth lab in Charlottesville.

Police executed a search warrant shortly after 10 AM on Wednesday at an apartment building in the 700 block of Franklin Street.

This has been an ongoing investigation for officers with the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement (JADE).

Officers detained three people after the bust, but they have since been released.

“It's an operational meth lab, but not active at the time when we entered it,” say Lt. Ronnie Roberts from the Charlottesville Police dept. “When I say active, it means they weren't actually cooking at the time.”

Neighbors came out to get a look at what was going on down their street. Some were shocked, while others weren’t surprised.

“I was shocked actually, because we go up and down through here every day, so to hear this and to see it, it's a total shock,” says Kim Moses, lives on Franklin Street.

“Somebody told me that stuff was happening across the street, so I came outside and I walked across the street and this is what I saw, so I was shocked,” says Moses.

“We know about weed, stuff like that, but we never thought there would be any meth,” says Jessica Workman, who previously lived on Franklin St.

Charlottesville Fire Department, along with a hazmat team spent four hours cleaning up hazardous material.

Police are not giving details on if any charges were filed.
