Charlottesville Seeing More New Residents

January 25, 2013

Charlottesville gained 1500 new residents in the last two years. The city is growing faster than most other places in the state.

The Weldon Cooper Center has been tracking the numbers. They looked at school enrollment and drivers’ license applications.

They say Charlottesville is enticing to young people and retirees. Why? Because of all the restaurants and stores without the congestion.

“It's not a huge metropolitan area so that people have to drive far to get here,” says Qian Cali of the Weldon Cooper Center. “So it's easy to get to and offers a lot of options for people of all kinds.

The center estimates Charlottesville will add another 3,000 people by the end of the decade. Right now the city’s population is 45,000
