It was a morning of fun for kids across central Virginia on Thursday. Many kids went outside to play in the snow, but for mom and dad, the commute was a little slippery.
Depending on where you live, you may have seen up to three inches of snow Thursday morning. As a precaution, most local schools closed for the day, but some folks still had to go had to travel the slick roads to get to work.
Whether the street was snow covered or had just a light dusting, Thursday morning's road conditions had some drivers concerned. Timothy Kenney drove in to work in Charlottesville around 7:00am as the snow steadily came down.
"The roads were pretty fair, the ice trucks had been out there and put salt down," said Timothy Kenney.
Although most primary roads were in good shape, Kenney says he experienced a few slick spots on a back road near his home.
"I started sliding so I hit my brakes...wrong thing to do," said Kenney.
The weather wasn't a problem for everyone. Students all around central Virginia enjoyed a day off thanks to the snow.
"Well, it's nice to have a break sometimes...with all the hard work and stuff," said KiKi Dowell, Student.
Friends KiKi Dowell and Katherine Wells took advantage of cancelled class with a morning of sledding at Washington park in Charlottesville.
"I think the best part is sledding and freezing your legs off," said Katherine Wells, Student.
Despite the cold temps, this duo plans to spend the rest of their day off zipping down the hill and playing in the snow before it all melts.
