Mount Zion First African Baptist Church hosted the 'Taste of Zion' potluck fundraiser on Saturday for scholarships for their leadership course series.
It cost $10 to get in and that got you 10 tastes of the various dishes brought by church members.
The leadership courses are through Virginia Union University and normally cost $85 dollars for a 6 to 8 week course. Not everyone can afford that, so teacher and church member Barbara Edwards says that the church wanted to make it accessible to more people.
""What we are doing is trying to find a way to help others who want to grow in ministry, in leadership, or just personel development...we just want to encourage everybody to learn and grow because you can't lead where you don't go yourself, we want to encourage that educational piece and this is one way to get that education out there."
Registration is open for the upcoming course series which starts in December.
