Charlottesville City Parks and Recreation hosted 'Belmont in the Park' on Saturday.

The event at Belmont Park is part of a summer series of neighborhood picnics and activities meant to help get people more involved in their communities.

This is the first such event hosted at Belmont Park, says Van Johnson of the city's parks and recreation department.

"We've been doing a lot of stuff over at Washington Park, and we've been doing stuff over at Tonsler Park, and this is a real nice park too, so we decided to do something here at Belmont Park," he said.

Saturday's event featured live music, food, face painting, a bounce house and the normal Belmont Park amenities of the play ground and spray park.

The next event is Sunday Sundown on Aug. 11, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Washington Park.

The events are co-sponsored by the Bama Works Funds of the Dave Matthews Band.
