City to Discuss Future of Landmark Hotel

Dec. 5, 2013

The City of Charlottesville is moving forward with plans to make changes to what some have called a dangerous eyesore on the Downtown Mall.

A sign has gone up on the construction site for the Landmark Hotel announcing a hearing to discuss what to do with the property.

Earlier this fall, the city declared the partially built hotel as blighted property, calling it unsafe because homeless people and graffiti artists have gotten onto the site.

The city gave the owner, John Dewberry until December to secure the property, but Dewberry says he has done enough.

The city will make the changes and send a bill to Dewberry.

A hearing to discuss the situation is scheduled for January 14.
