Community Honors Civil Rights Leader

January 31, 2013

A living legend was honored by the University of Virginia.

People gathered to celebrate Julian Bond, one of the foremost leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement.

The event was held at the Paramount, where a documentary was shown on his experiences.

Bond says it was a very special night.

"Virginia is a place I came to 20 odd years ago, and I had not expected to stay as long as I did. But I fell in love with it, and the place, and I hope they fell in love with me. I've enjoyed every second of being here. This was a great great evening. Something I didn't ask for, was surprised to get and you know it's kinda odd to sit there and have people say nice things about you but they were all true!"

At the end of the night, Delegate David Toscano presented Bond with a House joint resolution commending him for his achievements.
