UPDATE: Updated response from Lockn' Music Festival's media relations:
"The estimate of figures given were comprised from staff within offices of economic development, other county office and officials and were based on 2013 festival attendance and historic impact figures from events such as Camp Jeep and The Festy Experience. The Festy is an annual three day event at Devils Backbone that generated a regional economic impact of approximately $750,00 in 2012.
As stated in the release, early indication of the 1.6 estimate is based on expected revenues - 1% from state sales tax, 5% lodging tax, 4% food an beverage tax, employment taxes and various other sources, as well as the multiplier effect - for every dollar spent locally, that dollar recycles back through the economy five more times.

According to a statement released by Lockn' Music Festival organizers, Nelson County will receive approximately $1.6 million dollars in tax revenue for hosting the four-day event. The press release, dated Sept. 11, 2013, states that number comes directly from the Commissioner of the Revenue for Nelson County.
However, Nelson County Commissioner Jean Payne said Friday she has no idea where those numbers came from. In a phone interview with CBS19 Friday afternoon, Payne said she has not released any numbers and is puzzled as to why organizers are attributing the $1.6 million to her office.
"We got that number from a county official," said Lockn' organizer Dave Frey, but he declined to be more specific. "We are not experts at estimating tax revenue. So we wouldn't really offer a number like that without getting it from someone else."
The Commissioner says no one in her office has spoken to festival organizers in months.
