Drivers who use the Proffitt Road bridge in Albemarle County will have to take another route this week.
The Route 649 bridge over the Rivanna River was closed on Tuesday so that V-DOT could begin repairs.
Debris from trees and dirt had washed up against the bridge during January's heavy rain storm.
The repairs are expected to last from Tuesday until Thursday, March 21.
V-DOT asks that motorists use the detour along Route 20, also known as Stony Point Road, to Watt's Passage Road. Taking this route will lead drivers to Route 29 along Seminole Trail.
