The numbers are in, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit to Charlottesville raised some serious cash.
Officials say the visit raised a total of $380,000 in ticket sales and private donations. Nealry $95,000 of that revenue will be divided up between 11 local organizations, including the Charlottesville Free Clinic, the fire department, the Haven, Tibetan Sunday School in Charlottesville, and Service Dogs of Virginia.
"I think the Dalai Lama is one of the most extraordinary human beings on the planet," says Peggy Law of Service Dogs of Virginia. "It's such an honor to receive this, and we do rely on donations so that we can provide dogs to our clients without charge. So it's extremely meaningful.
The total cost for hosting the Dalai Lama came in at $143,000, all of that money was reimbursed.
