Democratic 5th District congressional candidate John Douglass rallied supporters on the Downtown Mall near the Free Speech Monument Saturday afternoon.
Douglass is making stops all over the 5th District with three days left until Election Day, hoping to sway independents.
"We know that when independents look at my resume compared to my opponents, they break our way by at least six points," said Douglass.
Douglass is running against Republican incumbent Rep. Robert Hurt.
Democratic supporters and speakers talked about the effects of negative super PAC ads from Republicans. Supporters say the ads are unnecessary.
"I'm really offended by the way at the ads that have been put out, that are really careless and that are full of misinformation about people that I know, and I've known for years and I have a great deal of faith in," said Douglass supporter Nancy O'Brien.
"I think that our people centered politics is going to prevail and we're going to tell the public and we're going to tell the world that all of his money coming outside is not going to be permitted to buy this election," said Del. David Toscano (D-57th District).
If elected, Douglass says he wants to put people first, saying he would like to set in motion a number of advisory councils made up of citizens of the 5th District.
"I'm going to demonstrate that I can work across party lines to bring jobs and education and better legislation to the 5th District," Douglass.
Douglass plans to continue his efforts hoping sway undecided votes.
