Drug Take-Back Day Lets People Dispose of Unused Drugs Safely

October 26, 2013

Saturday is National Take-Back day and the Albemarle County Police Department teamed up with Martha Jefferson Hospital for the event.

They asked people to bring their expired and unused medication to the hospital or police department for safe disposal and people filled up plenty of the baskets.

Officers were out explaining why it is important to throw away your old medication.

"You don't want them sitting around your house, especially narcotics or any pain pills," says Officer Jeremy DeLange. "If someone were to break in your house and take that medication it could then get on to the street and get to our kids in schools."
