Elementary Schools to Discuss Redistricting Options at Upcoming Meetings

December 7, 2012

Agnor-Hurt Elementary School is over capacity by more than 100 students.

A redistricting subcommittee will present to the public three options at a meeting on December 10th at 6:30 PM at Agnor-Hurt.

The first option would relocate 20 students living in the Northfield/Huntington area to Woodbrook Elementary School, and 46 students from the Woodlands/Earlysville to Broadus Wood Elementary School.

Option two would move 28 students, mostly from the Townwood neighborhood, to Greer Elementary School. This would be in addition to the 64 students relocated in option one.

The third option relocates 41 students living in Squirrel Ridge and Minor Ridge areas to Greer Elementary, along with option one for a total of 107 students.

Burley and Jouett middle schools could see their attendance zones changed as part of any of the above options.

A second subcommittee will present two options at their public meeting on December 11th at 6:30 PM at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School.

Their first option suggests no change to Meriwether Lewis' enrollment patterns.

The other option redistricts 55 students from Meriwether Lewis to Murray and/or Crozet elementary schools.

Also under consideration is to move 28 students in the West Leigh neighborhood, 21 students from Owensville/Kimbroughto, and eight students from Glenaire Murray Elementary School. Crozet Elementary could also receive 19 students from Browns Gap.

The meetings will also look ahead to future growth, such as possibly increasing capacity of Crozet and Red Hill elementary schools.
