Changes are coming to the way many shoppers enter one popular destination.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Albemarle County staff are meeting with engineers from the Shops at Stonefield to develop a new traffic pattern at the Hydraulic Road entrance.

The entrance has been closed since shortly after the shopping center opened because of the number of accidents at the intersection. The entrance is between Hydraulic Road's intersections with Route 29 and District Avenue, directly behind Pier 1 Imports.

The Stonefield engineers are developing a new plan, which is expected to be out soon, that might include additional traffic lights near the intersection.

Albemarle County staff will give the final approval of the plans, with VDOT's guidance, once they are in.
