Some rural roads in Central Virginia have been shut down, due to all the recent rain.

East Jack Jouett Drive, in Louisa County, was blocked Friday evening, because a stream is flowing over a narrow bridge, at a depth of nearly one foot.

And a handful of homeowners are finding water in their basements.

"I've seen numerous basement flooding," said Mike Key, with Blue Ridge Carpet and Tile. "Not just basement flooding. I've seen upper level flooding also. We've had people calling in about their gutters being stopped up. It overflows and that water overflowing will sometimes come through the windows."

Key says, it's important for people to keep their gutters and exterior drains cleared.

"Especially when you have a couple of days of rain like this," said Key. "You want to check everything that could cause a leak."

But Key says people around Charlottesville are getting better about being prepared for storms like this.

"The last time that we had a rain storm like this, we had quite a bit of calls come in," Key said. "This time we had maybe five come in."

Contractors say, typically the calls for flooded basements will increase dramatically after an extended rainstorm is over. They expect to have a lot of calls to respond to on Monday.
