(AP) Accomack County residents won't be getting federal aid to repair damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that he was disappointed that the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the state's disaster relief request for the hard-hit Eastern Shore community. He encouraged Virginians to help Accomack residents by donating to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund.

The federal Individual Assistance Program would have made funding available to homeowners, renters and businesses in the form of low-interest loans and grants, unemployment assistance, disaster housing assistance and crisis counseling.
