Few Answers in Barracks Road Shopping Center Brawl

March 25, 2013

Charlottesville Police continue the hunt for a suspect wanted for stabbing someone during a massive brawl Saturday in the Barracks Road Shopping Center parking lot.

"It was sort of surprise but then again it's like, no not really," Charlottesville resident Angelica Howard said. "There's a lot of stuff going on in Charlottesville."

Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, a group of about 25 people entered Buffalo Wild Wings and left shortly after. Store management says the group was only inside for about 10 minutes and left with no altercations inside.

Once outside, the fight began in the parking lot, moving toward Harris Teeter, where someone fired two gunshots.

"There's a lot of things that have been happening here lately that I'm aware of, and I think that the stores should be a little bit on alert as for things going on in their own environment," said Charlottesville resident Gloria Jennings.

Police arrested 20-year-old Antwan Chambers of Buckingham County for recklessly discharging a firearm, among other charges. Police are still looking for other suspects involved in the stabbings.

Four others were also arrested on drug charges.

One person had cuts to the face, while another was stabbed in the torso. Both were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for minor injuries and have since been released.

"It could've been anybody over here," Howard said. "It could've been me or my family. We could've been out to eat or something. It could've been us involved in all of that."

Buffalo Wild Wings released a statement to the Newsplex, saying "... at no time were any of these customers served [alcohol], nor did the fight start inside our business."

An email and voicemail to a spokeswoman for Federal Realty, which manages the Barracks Road Shopping Center, were not returned.

"Management, they could probably get tighter security, but it's just everybody in one," Howard said. "Just everybody living here just trying to be peaceful."

This is the second incident like this in the past few months. In December, someone fired gunshots in the same area of the parking lot, damaging a car. No one was charged in that incident.

Police ask anyone with information in the stabbings to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
