The Main Street Arena is hosting the first local Skate-A-Thon on Saturday night.
Dozens of figure skaters and hockey players will fill the ice, skating laps for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Skaters will set personal lap goals, and then family and friends can pledge a certain amount of money per lap.
It's all in honor of National Skating Month, and one Charlottesville Figure Skating Club member says she started skating at the age of 24 and that it's a fun and healthy sport.
"We just wanted to share our love for the sport and use it as a chance to help a charity and we chose the blue ridge area food bank because we wanted something local that would help kids," Megan Rowe said.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and ends at 8:45.
