Thousands of people over the past week have bought some books in impressive numbers to help benefit local library programs.

Books by the bag left the Gordon Avenue branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library on Sunday. The Friends of the Library Book Sale wrapped up in that location.

The sale took place for more than a week at the library.

Sunday was the last day for the public, but teachers will have the chance to get some free materials on Monday.

Some of the leftover books will be sold online.

The sale usually rakes in about $100,000 for the libraries.
