Over 70 people participated in the Fix-A-Leak 5k at Pen Park in Charlottesville on Saturday morning.
Fix-A-Leak week is a nation-wide event sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Charlottesville Department of Public Works and the Albemarle County Service Authority helped to raise awareness on how people can save water through a 5K run.
“We encourage people to check, twist, and replace,” says Kaitlin Finan, water conservation coordinator.
“You can check for leaks in your toilet by using food dye. You can replace old fixtures with a water sense label and twist. You can tighten your pipe connections or twist on a faucet aerator, where you will use less water, but not really see a difference in the pressure.”
The 5K allowed people to learn about water conservation in a family friendly way.
