The signatures on an online petition continue to add up. Concerned Fluvanna County parents and citizens say they are voicing their feelings on the lack of funding for schools. They would like the county to give the school system full funding.

"One the biggest problems is the complete lack of dialogue between the school board and the board of supervisors, said Bill Sullivan.

Sullivan has two children in the school system. He's also a member of "Focus on Fluvanna's Future."
The group is made up of concerned citizens and parents supporting the school system.

The group is also responsible for organizing an online petition asking supervisors to increase funding to the school district.

"The board of supervisors has taken the stance that they are going to stick their head in the sand and not listen and find out what's happening with the schools," said Sullivan.

Some county citizens say the school system took on more than they could handle when constructing an $81 million school.

"The fact is that the high school is bought. It is here, it's a great asset for the schools. What we need to focus on is that it is a sunk cost," said Sullivan. "What are the variable costs that we have now and what are we going to do in order to make sure that the school staff is properly equipped."

The county has money in savings that could be use without touching emergency funds. However, county supervisors denied the school system those funds.

The county also plans to refinance bonds. This would put more money back into the county treasury. It's up to supervisors if they will give those funds to the school district.
