Fluvanna Co. Sheriff Resigns, Joins McAuliffe Administration

Friday morning was the last day for Fluvanna County Sheriff Ryant Washington.

Sheriff Washington is leaving his post to become a special policy advisor for law enforcement with the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

He will oversee the agency's law enforcement efforts, training, and standards of practice.

Chief Deputy Eric Hess will serve as interim sheriff until a permanent replacement is found.

Hess plans to run for the Sheriff’s seat during the next scheduled election.
