Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office Releases New Information on Suspicious Death

July 4, 2014

Authorities say the victim found in a burned out car has not been identified, but Fluvanna County Sheriff's deputies believe they know who the victim is.

The incident happened on the 1200 block of Rising Sun Road near Palmyra around 1:00 AM Thursday morning.

Authorities say a 1995 Lexus was found on fire in the backyard of a home next to a driveway with a body inside.

The car is owned by the same owner of the home where it was found.

The owner says the car appeared to have been in the same spot the driver had parked it.

The homeowner was at home when it happened and is said to have reported the fire after neighbors say they saw flames coming from the backyard.

Sheriff's deputies are not actively searching for a suspect.

"We're not jumping to any conclusions. Definitely an odd set of circumstances but there's nothing initially that would indicate foul play other than the extreme oddity of the set of circumstances," says Lt. David Wells of the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors tell CBS19 the victim was related to the homeowner, but investigators say confirming the identity of the victim will be a long process and do not know exactly when they will find out.
