It’s that time of year again. The first day of school approaches and parents are eager to send their children off to the classroom.
A few moms of students at Carysbrook Elementary in Fluvanna County are hoping to put some smiles on faces as kids and teachers file into the school on Monday morning.
“We are trying to bring some sunshine when the kids come and decorating the sidewalks for the teachers and the staff and the kids to help them get excited about the first day of school,” says Bridgette Madison, a mom involved in Parents Active at Carysbrook. “I know there's a lot of excitement about that anyway.”
While some were excited about the first day of school, one third grader is a little apprehensive.
“I'm sort of nervous because it's the third school I've been in,” says Kessler Potter, 3rd grader at Carysbrook. “I went to the little school Columbia, that closed down and then I went to Central, which is a few blocks up that way, then I came here, so it's the third school I've been to.”
She won't be the only one nervous about the first day. Nearly 600 third and fourth graders will make their way into the school on Monday.
Soon the quiet hallways at Carysbrook Elementary will be full of students, all eager to start their new school year and make some new friends along the way.
For Potter, she hopes to see some of her friends that were with her at central elementary and wants to make sure she can find her way through the halls.
“I hope to learn my way around better, because when you first get in it's sort of hard to know your way around,” says Potter.
However, before students even walk through the doors, these moms, who are proud members of parents active at Carysbrook, are aiming to brighten up the morning with chalk art.
School starts at 7:45AM for Carysbrook Elementary students.
