Franklin Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of Boy

WIRTZ, Va. (AP) - Franklin County authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy.

Franklin County Sheriff's Lt. Phillip Young tells media outlets that the shooting occurred Monday morning at a residence in the Burnt Chimney community.

Young says deputies responding to a report of a shooting found the boy lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed.

No other details have been released.
