It's the day many Virginians have been waiting for. General firearms deer hunting season began Saturday
As they set their alarms for the crack of dawn, hundreds of hunters set out with their dogs, friends and family to start the general firearms season. Just, not on Sundays.
Virginia is one of 11 states that bans hunting on Sundays. Many people have been trying to change that but for some, it's not about getting one more day in.
"If you can't do it in 6 days you don't need another one. A lot of guys would disagree with me on that but I have my personal reasons. It's really just getting together with the guys, going for a good hunt and get some good camaraderie," said Allen Bingler, who has been hunting for 40 years.
In total, 14 game check statsion around Albemarle County opened for hunters on Saturday.
