Golfers Looking Forward to Planned Trump Golf Course

April 29, 2013

The Trump name will likely be on a new public golf course on the grounds near the Albemarle County vineyard with the same name.

The planned project is still in its infant stages, but Eric Trump tells the Newsplex some of the world's best architects have seen the land and are eager to join the project.

"They're all dying to do it," said Trump. "It's truly one of the most beautiful places."

The Trumps acquired the 3,000-acre property in 2012. At the time, Eric Trump mentioned a future PGA Tour-worthy course was a possibility for the space.

As planning continues, Trump has high expectations.

"It would put golf in Charlottesville on the map and be something the community would be proud of," he said.

Those who are familiar with the 14 other Trump courses worldwide agree.

"I have played Trump golf courses before and they are really second to none," said Tim Taylor, an instructor at Meadowcreek Golf Course.

Taylor says a Trump course would no doubt raise the bar for other golf facilities in the area.

"He definitely will set the standard high for all of us that are trying to keep our standards high and have good course conditions and really supply the best round of golf that we can," said Taylor. "Every golfer loves to play somewhere new, and I think the competition is welcomed."

Local golfers are also supporting the planned project.

"I think it's a great idea. It's going to be great for the local economy and it'll be good for people who like to play golf," said Albemarle County golfer Lisa Kirkpatrick.

"He generally makes really nice courses, so I'd expect it to be of pretty good quality. I certainly would like it," said Charlottesville golfer Brent Lacy. "The more options the better in my opinion."

Trump says no timeline has been set for the course, but says he is looking forward to the project after having a positive experience opening a vineyard and winery on the land.
