The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) released guidelines Friday for applications for the Beehive Grant Fund.
Starting in January 2013, anyone who buys a new beehive or purchases materials to construct one may apply for the grant.
The grant covers up to $200 per hive, but limits $2,400 per individual per year. The total funds available for the beehive grant is $125,000.
Beehive Grant Funds are only available to residents of Virginia, who are at least 18 years old, who have the beehive installed and kept within the state. Grant program funds are subject to state and federal taxes.
For a full list of qualifying purchases to create and maintain a beehive, as well as to apply electronically go to www.vdacs.virginia.gov.
