The Route 29 Western Bypass is not worth taxpayers’ money. That was the message from a group of the road’s opponents
A group gathered at C'ville Coffee on Wednesday to discuss the fiscal reality of the proposed 6.2 mile road. Many say the $240,000,000 project has very little regional or national return on investment.
Erich Zimmerman, a representative from Taxpayers for Common Sense, came down from Washington DC to explain why the 29 Bypass is on that group’s list of the eight worst proposed projects in the country.
“Even really locally, the return is quite low given the reductions in congestion and travel time that drivers will experience at the existing road.”
The group says it will continue to talk with lawmakers and administrators on Capitol Hill, and encourage a new analysis of the bypass.
