The Barracks Road Holiday Parade made its way through the shopping center Friday morning.
The stream of marching bands, floats, dancers, scouts and other groups made its way from Harris Teeter all the way to Kroger.
Hundreds of people took part in the parade. Many more cheered them on from the sidewalks.
"It's a highlight of the day and a highlight of the Christmas time," said Albemarle County resident Stephen McIninch, who rode an antique car in the parade with his children.
Some people came to the shopping center for Black Friday deals, but stuck around to watch the parade.
"I was planning on going shopping," said Norfolk resident Sarah Nugent. "but I saw the sign for the parade and got all excited."
Santa Claus closed the show, waving to the crowd from a horse-drawn carriage.
