Handful of Local Vendors Share New Store at Stonefield

Nov. 14, 2013

The Shops at Stonefield is full of big name retailers, but some local shops and vendors are also getting the chance to call it home

Palette is a modern day marketplace featuring more than half a dozen pop-up shops of local vendors, and small business. It's all in an effort to bring some Charlottesville charm to the shopping center.

All of the vendors were curated by Palette. Some already have stores in the area, but jewelry line Kirakira does not.

"We've been embracing the whole pop-up craze," said Kirakira founder and owner Suzanne Somersall. "As a small business being able to test out different markets without a long-term lease or commitment, we can just dive into a community and meet people and get feedback on our product."

Dani Antol, co-owner and art director of Rock Paper Scissor, is no stranger to starting a small business in the Charlottesville area.

"We knew this was a great place to start a local business and be a part of local business because the community really supports that local aspect here," Antol said.

Both Antol and Somersall say the shared space is bringing a small town feel to the new shopping center.

"There is a sense of community not only with the vendors, but with the customers. I think that's something really special and unique to Charlottesville," said Somersall.

With so many merchants in one location, Palette is a great space for one stop holiday shopping.

"You can get greeting card, or buy an awesome jewelry for your mom, or a scarf, or furniture pieces all in one place and know that your getting back to the community. It's really awesome," Antol said.

Palette is open Thursdays through Sundays.
