Multiple colleges and universities in the central Virginia area are closed Wednesday, as heavy, wet snow continues to fall throughout the region.
The University of Virginia announced early Wednesday morning that all classes are cancelled. The operating schedule message on Virginia.edu reads:
"Designated Academic and Health System employees report as scheduled by your supervisor. Patient care services are being provided as usual. Any patient who would like to reschedule their appointment for Wednesday, March 6, should call the number listed on their appointment letter.
"IM-Rec employees are designated; when classes are cancelled only North Grounds and AFC are open. Due to inclement weather conditions, University Transit System will be operating limited route service for the Green Route from 6am to 8pm. Due to road conditions, the Green Route is unable to provide service to the Emmet/Ivy Garage. From University Hall, the Green Route will run right onto Emmet Street, detour past the Emmet/Ivy Garage continuing on Emmet Street to Jefferson Park Avenue. The Stadium/Hospital Shuttle will operate 6am to 8pm. It will run continuously throughout the day as road conditions permit.
"Student Health and the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will be open with limited staffing. In the event of a medical emergency, call 911. For more information, call (434) 243-7669 or (434) 924-7669."
Other colleges and universities closed Wednesday include James Madison University, Longwood University, Sweet Briar College, Piedmont Virginia Community College, and Germanna Community College.
