Preparations are underway for this week's grand illumination of the Christmas tree.
Every year, about 2,000 people gather around the downtown mall to witness the 25-foot tree light up.
This year has a more special meaning, as it's the city's 250th birthday.
Locals will be able to write happy birthday wishes on special number ornaments that will hang from the trees.
"Over the night as each number is filled, we will mount it. So you will see over the evening, the '2' will go up, then the '5' will go up, then the '0' will go up. They are pretty spectacular," said Bob Stroh of the Downtown Business Association.
The Christmas tree lighting will take place Friday from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. on the downtown mall.
