A heart smart hooping event for women took place on Friday evening.
In honor of National Heart Month, UVa's Club Red program hosted "Hoop for your Heart" in Charlottesville.
This is the sixth year of the hula hooping, and the first year women could decorate their hoop.
The free, hour-long exercise class taught more than a hundred women how to burn calories and strengthen their hearts while having fun.
"it's something that should be a part of your daily routine. And there is this misperception that it is a chore and that it's boring, but this event shows that it absolutely doesn't have to be," said Meghan Bradley, UVa's Club Red Coordinator.
Club Red is a women's heart health initiative sponsored by the UVa heart and Vascular Center. The free online program is designed to help women make small lifestyle changes that have a big impact on heart health. To sign up, visit the Club Red website here.
Club Red will have another heart healthy event on Thursday, February 27. It will hold a free question and answer session on women's heart health, followed by a dance lesson. For more information, visit the event webpage.
