Monday, George Huguely will appear in court for the first time since the May 2010 death of ex-girlfriend, Yeardley Love. The former University of Virginia lacrosse player faces six charges, including first-degree murder, in connection to her death.

"Mr. Huguely will stand in front of the courtroom and be asked 'how to you plead, guilty or not guilty' to each of the six charges," said Charlottesville Defense Attorney Scott Goodman, who has no connection to the case.

Goodman says Huguely's lawyers have made it clear that he will plead not guilty, but the statement is not official unless it comes from the defendant's mouth. "This is before any jury selection, before any witness testifies, that is the very first thing that will happen," said Goodman, who added that in Virginia a plea deal can happen at anytime before the jury returns the verdict.

The trial is expected to take up to two weeks, but Goodman says it could last even longer.

"If the jury selection takes longer than two days, and it appears that the court is going to cut off testimony every night at six, it would be surprising to me that the case will be finished in two weeks," he said.

Little is known about what will happen inside of the courtroom because lawyers on both sides have remained tight-lipped, leaving room for surprises throughout the course of the trial.

"We don't know the the full defense testimony regarding the full cause of death," said Goodman.

Another unknown is what was said in e-mails that Love and Huguely exchanged in the months leading up to her death. The e-mails were found on Love's laptop, which Huguely allegedly stole the night of her death.

One thing is known, Love's mother and sister, Sharon and Lexie, will be the first to testify, helping them to find closure in Love's death, as her accused killer faces an uncertain future.

Heres what he told the police: "George Huguely admitted on May 3, 2010 that he was involved in an altercation with Yeardly Love and that during the course of the altercation he shook Love and her head repeatedly hit the wall," Charlottesville Police Det. Lisa Reeves wrote in a sworn statement used to obtain a search warrant in the case.
