A ceremony Wednesday to lay one of the area's most influential religious leaders to rest.
Bishop Walter Sullivan served for 29 years as the Bishop of the Diocese of Richmond.
Nearly a thousand people attended his funeral mass on Wednesday in Richmond.
Bishop Sullivan died December 11th at the age of 84, just weeks after he was diagnosed with liver cancer.
Sullivan was an activist bishop who welcomed gay and lesbian Catholics to diocese churches and was an advocate for peace.
