More than 700 women laced up early Saturday morning to start training for the Women's Four-Miler race in August.

There were lots of first-timers in the crowd who were ready to take on eleven weeks of training to either run or walk the race to benefit the UVa Cancer Center's Breast Care Program.

Day one of training gave the women lots of information, time to join a walk, jog or running group and then time to eat and get to know each other.

Gayle and Georgia Davidson are a mother-daughter team doing it together for the second year in a row.

"We did this last year we did the race and the training program all summer and even ran at home," said mother Gayle. "Yes, it's like the start of a brand new season," said daughter Georgia.

These women will be training all summer through August 24.

The race along Garth Road near Foxfield will take place August 31.
