Newly appointed Albemarle County supervisor Petie Craddock is talking more about his outlook for the next few months on the job and his goals.
Craddock sums up what he wants his time on the board to mean in one simple phrase.
"I want to be a bridge," Craddock said. "I want to be a bridge to that point and let the Scottsville district then have the decision of who's going to represent them."
Craddock says he's not running for the Scottsville seat in the special election in November.
A unanimous decision Wednesday by the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors appointed Craddock the Scottsville district seat.
"Just an overwhelming amount of people kept contacting me they said, 'Petie we need somebody like you to be this interim supervisor," he said.
Craddock has lived at his home in Milton his whole life and hopes to do the best job he can for the area he calls home and the people in it.
"I know not everyone is going to be happy with decisions on both sides, but my goal is to look at the whole picture and do what I think is best for the Scottsville district and the county of Albemarle," said Craddock.
He also hopes to restore ethics and order. Craddock is temporarily replacing Chris Dumler, who resigned last month. Dumler pleaded guilty to a sexual battery charge in January.
"I want to bring back the normal board of supervisors meetings where you don't have the first fifteen minutes of people being all upset toting signs around, speaking out loud, just bring the board back to their normal activities."
Craddock served on the Albemarle County Planning Commission for eight years and has experience with the Chamber of Commerce.
He says he knows each supervisor either personally, from family or from working with them in the past so he is excited to be part of their team.
Craddock will be sworn in on Thursday.
