The embezzlement trial against a former Virginia Executive Mansion chef has been postponed until October.
Circuit Judge Margaret Spencer on Tuesday set a July 8 hearing date for motions, including one by Todd Schneider's lawyer to dismiss the four-count indictment. The trial, originally set for July, was pushed back to Oct. 15-18.
Judge Spencer also granted defense attorney Steve Benjamin's request to modify a gag order to allow attorneys to correct public misinformation as long as the defense and prosecution agree.
The case against Todd Schneider is entangled with a growing political scandal involving a wealthy businessman's gifts to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Governor Bob McDonnell.
The Attorney General's Office withdrew as prosecutor in Schneider's case, citing a conflict of interest because a possible witness has helped raise funds for Cuccinelli's gubernatorial campaign.
