Kickoff of the Big Read Program

March 1, 2014

The Big Read program's goal is to change the role of literature in american culture.

The page-turner is True Grit by Charles Portis.

Saturday's launch featured pony rides for kids along with an appearance of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library's Bookmobile.

Program coordinators hope the program will encourage more people to read throughout the year.

Charlottesville Vice Mayor Dede Smith along with Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Chair Jane Dittmar proclaimed March as the month of the Big Read.
