On New Years Eve the Downtown Mall will be filled with revelers ready to bring in the new year. A laser show last year at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion ushered in 2012.
The Main Street Arena in Charlottesville is now home to First Night Virginia. The event is now on the opposite side of the mall. Business owners hope the new location will increase their business.
"Having a night where so many people will be out, maybe some new people who haven't seen us yet, well get a chance to come in and see what we do hopefully," said Whiskey Jar co-owner, Wilson Richey.
Organizers are expecting about 1,800 people to celebrate inside of the arena. Richey says his restaurant will extend their hours.
"It's something we all look forward to and we are excited about," said Richey. "To have this many people is a little intimidating but we are up for the challenge."
He's up for the challenge as thousands descend on the mall for New Years Eve.
