A local veteran is sounding off over the Pentagon's decision to allow women to serve in combat positions including the frontlines.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made the announcement Thursday.
Local veteran Joyce Howard reflects on the time she spend serving our country. She said she's excited calling it a big step for women but she also says it isn't as black and white as it sounds. Howard says women do deserve equal opportunities which also means equal risk.
"What will happen to the family that has children, that has two parents. Both parents are registered, both parents are of age and able-bodied and can serve. Who decides who goes?" asks Howard.
It's questions like that, that made her think about the new chapter that has opened up for women. But she says however it develops, every woman will have a choice to make.
